Life Isn’t a Dress Rehearsal

Something happens when you hit 4-0. You begin to think about how twenty years ago, you were twenty and you remember it pretty well. Then, you leap ahead twenty years from forty and realize you’ll be 6-0. You wonder where the years go. You start to ask yourself questions when you reach mid-life. It’s not so much about what you missed out on, or thinking you’re missing “something”. It’s more about making sure you do the things you’re passionate about. What gets you excited? What makes you want to get out of bed in the morning? What keeps you feeling young (physically and mentally)? If I don’t do those things, will I have regrets?

I had thought about this blog for years. I’d talk myself into it, then talk myself out of it. My 40th birthday milestone was the perfect time to pull the trigger. My dad once told me when I was younger that “life isn’t a dress rehearsal, you get one big show.” I had devoted my entire adulthood to being a wife and a mother and I loved and enjoyed every moment (I still do). You CAN be a great mom and still want to pursue something that reignites a spark inside of you. This blog was it for me. After my 40th, I felt like it was now or never. I chose now.

On this blog, I want to be as authentic as possible and stay as true to my “in real life” self as possible. In real life, my kids drive me nuts. In real life, I curse. In real life, I love my husband of 16 years, but things aren’t always perfect. In real life, I have days where I don’t like the way I look or the way my pants fit. In real life, I drink too much vodka sometimes. In real life, I eat my kids’ left over easy mac n cheese. In real life, I got pregnant my senior year at my Catholic high school (I know you all are dying for that story lol).

I promise that I will always keep things real. I’ll be as open as I can about my life experiences and I will never “sell” you on products or services that I don’t absolutely love and use. This part is very important to me.

I want to connect with my readers through this blog by sharing some of the heartfelt, some of the mundane, some of the ridiculous, and some of the “when the shit hits the fan” experiences we all have in life. I want to do it with a sometimes sarcastic, mad, humorous, happy, and sad tone, but most importantly, always staying true to who I am. I’ll talk about things, as women, we can all relate to on some level. I was a teenage mom, I’m a daughter, a sister, and I’m a wife. I’ve been a stay at home mom, I’ve been a part time employee, and now I’m transitioning to a hybrid “work inside and outside of the home” mom. Hopefully you can connect with some of these parts of my life, and see yourself in some of my posts.

I want to share my love of fashion. I’m passionate about dressing well because I think it makes you look and feel better when you dress in things you like. I’m always down to try the newest skincare products. I love makeup and hair trends. I love to travel and do it as often as I can. I’m also a Cycle, Barre, and TRX instructor, and I believe fitness is the key to good mental health. The physical benefits are an added bonus.

I also want to talk about aging and what it means to women. I’m all for (and have done and continue to do) anti-aging procedures, plastic surgery, skincare routines, and supplements to keep myself looking and feeling youthful inside and out. I will share what has worked, what hasn’t, and the pros and cons of them all. I will always encourage you to do what makes you feel good about your outward appearance. Keeping that in mind, your internal thoughts and your attitude is what will drive how you age mentally. I read this quote once and it stuck with me: “youth encompasses a lot of things but it all starts with your attitude”.

I encourage you to share your experiences through the comment section of this blog post and others, comment on Instagram (DM me!) or Facebook (private message me!), or send me an email.
