I’m sure you’ve heard of CBD oil lately. And you’ve probably seen it at your local health store, in your Doctor’s office and maybe even in a gas station (no, just no). Many people think it’s like marijuana and can get you high (it can’t) or that it’s illegal (it’s not) or that all CBD products are the same (they’re not). Hopefully this post can dispel some of the rumors about CBD, give you the science behind why it’s so effective (from an actual Orthopedic surgeon) and I can give you some insight into why I’m a user for life.
CBD oil has made it possible for me to sleep through the night again. CBD oil has made me less anxious; I’m no longer staring at the ceiling at night over thinking and worrying about things that I soon realize are not worth worrying about. CBD oil has improved my overall mood. I yell at my children less, I lose my cool less, I am more even keel then I have ever been in my life.
I had tried CBD oil right after the first of the year. I was expecting great things from it after all the buzz and everything I read about its effectiveness. After a month, I felt pretty much the same and I was disappointed.
Then someone gave my husband a sample of a different CBD oil, Ultracell. It is water soluble and has an absorption rate up to 94% (with bioavailability within one hour) compared to the less than the 10% absorption rate I was getting from the first one I tried. This has actually been proven by a study done at the Mayo Clinic in which they tested the top ten CBD oil products on the market.
It also should be noted that milligrams are not the most important thing to consider when choosing a CBD oil, water solubility is. It doesn’t matter how many milligrams are in it if your body can’t absorb it. You know the saying, “They go together like oil and water.” They don’t mix. So products made with an oil delivery system (olive oil, coconut oil), even if they have “higher milligrams” are not absorbed by our bodies and can’t be nearly as effective. Since our bodies are made up of mostly water, about 60%, water solubility is absolutely key to having success with CBD oil.
The product I’m currently taking is organically grown and USDA certified organic. This product uses all the over 100 different CBDs found in the hemp plant along with all the other proteins, minerals, vitamins, terpenoids, flavonoids, omegas, and other substances, over 400 in all, that combine to enhance the effects of the CBD. Some CBD oils just extract the CBDs and don’t use the entire plant. So you’re missing out on all the benefits that the entire plant provides.
Within a few days of starting Ultracell I was feeling better and sleeping better. Within three weeks I was sold on this particular brand of CBD oil. I have more energy, less hormonal swings, I have less heart burn, my brain fog has improved significantly and my attention span is better than it has ever been. After three months of taking Ultracell CBD oil, I can say that I will not go without this product. It is now part of my daily routine.
Hemp was made illegal by the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937. Even though hemp has none of the psychotropic effects as marijuana, it is the “sister” or “cousin” of marijuana so it was outlawed in the act. Before that time, hemp was grown on farms and cattle and chicken grazed on it. It was then passed along to humans so we were naturally getting all the benefits that the hemp plant had to offer. Once it was made illegal, that came to an end. Thankfully in December of 2018, the President signed the Farm Bill which once again made hemp an agricultural product and removed it from the Controlled Substances Act. Hemp is now legal in all 50 states.
Dr. Steven Deluca, a local orthopedic surgeon who is an advocate for the use of CBD oil, explains the Endocannabinoid System and why CBD is beneficial to us. “The ECS is a biological system that is integral in the homeostasis (equilibrium) of the body. The receptors (CB1 & CB2) are found throughout nearly every organ system in the body. The hormones of the ECS are called cannabinoids. The primary being cannabidiol or CBD. Our body produces its own cannabinoids but we do not get enough of these in our diet (due to the Marijuana Act of 1937 which made growing hemp illegal). When we are deficient in cannabinoids, the ECS is out of equilibrium which adversely affects cognition, sleep, anxiety, appetite, pain, inflammation, the immune system and the reproductive system. We can get more cannabinoids from plants, specifically the hemp plant. These are called phytocannabinoids, the 2 main ones being CBD & THC. THC is the one that causes euphoria (“the high”). CBD does not.”
There’s lots of CBD products on the market right now. It is very important to make sure you are taking a high quality CBD oil. Since CBD oil is considered a supplement there is less government regulation which lends itself to some really subpar products. I can’t stress this enough. Some contain very little CBD, some are mixed with oil and are not easily absorbed by the body, some contain THC even when they state they are THC free. Every bottle of Ultracell comes with a QR code that is scannable from the camera app in your smart phone that gives you a certificate of analysis. This gives you all the information about the particular batch that your bottle came from. This includes soil testing and the THC amount (none).
With everyone wanting to take a more natural approach to what they’re putting in their bodies, CBD oil is an amazing alternative to more traditional medicinal methods. I have heard so many testimonials from everyday people that have had their lives changed because of it. I am one of those people, and sharing its benefits feels very natural to me. I believe almost every person can benefit from CBD oil. Some people don’t realize how out of homeostasis they are until they’ve use the product and feel like a new person. I am passionate about it because I believe that this product can help so many people. I’ve loved helping people feel physically and mentally better since I started teaching fitness classes three years ago. Spreading the word about CBD oil and its benefits feels like a natural fit for me. In my very first blog post I write about how I believe every person should be the very best version of themselves that they can be. This product is another really great tool to use in that process.
